Daren´s parents

It´s worthy to get to know Daren´s parents better to understand Daren himself.

Daren´s father was a good man. He was from a small village in the interior of Portugal. he was the firstborn of tow brothers. When he was six years old he started to work, as it was the use among the people in Portugal at that time. He started to work whit Daren´s grandfather, shepherding sheep and goats. Its was a hard job for a man to do, imagine for a six year old boy. He often had no shoes and many times would sleep above a creek white a stone as pillow. This last until he was twelve years old. At that he went to work in a restaurant in the town nearby. But the work wasn´t easier at all. long hours of work, often form 6 am to 12 pm. many time with no resting day. All his money he made he gave it to his parents. But being in the town, knowing other people, people with more secular education, with minds more open, made him also open more his mind. It´s worthy to say that Daren´s father was a clever man. More clever then some of his peers and his relatives, namely his brother, whom we will talk later about.

At the age of 16, a man who use to eat at the restaurant, seeing that he was more clever then the others, invited him to go to Lisbon, the capital city of Portugal, to go to take a course at the national flying company, TAP, and to work there later as a mechanic. His father was afraid of what could happened there, being far from his family in the big city. The lack of sight from his humble father didn´t allow Daren´s father to expend his horizons and in some way restrained him in his entire life, making him a fearful person, although he thought about going to Venezuela to work and later went to Switzerland.

He had a pretty normal life for a young man his age in that place. He grew up and as Portugal was coming out from the era of dictatorship and people where become more open, he lived that life, visiting new places in Portugal, going to the beach with his mates and in somehow partying and dating. A normal life for a young man.

When he was around 22 years old, he met Daren´s mother at a political rally. They felt in love and dated for four years before getting married. Daren´s mother was 17 years old and his father 26.

Daren´s mother was the opposite of his father. To start she was much more younger, and a woman...And at that time in that place, women where not allowed to do many thing. She was from the same village as Daren´s father. Like him, she stared to work very young, at the age of  9, working in the fields, carrying piles of bushes and other works. She was the oldest of tow brothers. Her father was a hard working man. Also him went o Switzerland to work and was able with his work to built his own house in that village and buy some land around. But he had no vision and could be harsh with his children at times. Her mother was a very sweet and loving woman, subjected to her husband, using the hair as he liked, wearing the cloths he wanted.

Daren´s mother was a simple person, with no vision, with her horizons very closed and with her father´s personality.She was not a clever woman, although she was not dumb at all. But she was the typical housewife with no ambition. She would have liked to become a hairdresser or a fashion stylist, but her father never allowed her to learn anything. Like Daren´s father, she had only the basic instruction, the 4th grade, in a period when someone with the 9th grade would be considered educated. But her father just focus on money and having his kids bringing money home. That´s why as soon has she could she married to flee from that life, and short after getting married she become pregnant of Daren. Daren´s mother was a very emotionally fragile person, and this became even worse when she stayed alone with baby Daren in the first year Daren´s father went to Switzerland. Living in the town, away from her parents, not knowing anyone, not having a good relationship with her husband´s relatives, rooted deep her depression. 

Young Daren grew up between and emotionally unstable woman and a man whom at time wouldn´t "wear the pants" and would let his unstable wife make the decisions. 

And this revolt Daren. How could his father just do what his mother wanted even he new it was not right? How could his father be "subjected", in his view, to his mother? How could a man who Daren knew to be clever and with vision simply resign to his mediocre life?

More and more Daren was going astray from his parents, creating in his heart a feeling of superiority regarding his parents, and in his head having the idea that they where Dumb and so they didn´t have nothing to offer to him.
